Dazzling Covent Garden for six weeks this summer is ‘Disney in the West End’ – an interactive, Disney-themed pop up experience, which is completely free!
Disney musicals have become a permanent feature of the West End – The Lion King celebrates its 20th year on the London stage this October – and this pop up shop celebrates Disney’s current and future West End productions: The Lion King, Aladdin, Mary Poppins (autumn 2019) and Frozen (2020). See a spectacular exhibition of costumes and masks from The Lion King, and learn about the ideas and techniques that went into their creation with daily costume tours; dive into the Cave of Wonders with retro Aladdin-themed arcade games; put your brains to the test by trying to spell the world’s longest word – supercalifra…? – with Mary Poppins; and take a sparkling moving selfie in the icy world of Frozen.
As well as these fixed activities, there are exciting daily pop up events, too: meet The Lion King’s Zazu in his weekly puppetry demonstration; join a bitesize Movement and Music workshop and learn songs and choreography from the West End shows, running three times each day; try your hand at making a Mary Poppins kite; and, if you’re really lucky, catch live performances from the stellar West End casts of Aladdin and The Lion King! You can even try out a ‘Circle of Life’ VR experience and feel what it’s like to perform on The Lion King’s Lyceum stage.
Open daily from 23rd July to 1st September, ‘Disney in the West End’ is the perfect place to pop into with the family while you’re in town – especially because the shop and activities cost nothing! Located on Long Acre, near Covent Garden station, the pop up shop is a single tube away from us at the Mercure Kensington, so travelling to the magic couldn’t be easier.
